Roger Allen Herron
September 15, 1942 ~ April 3, 2024 (age 81) 81 Years Old
Roger Allen Herron, born in September 15, 1942, in Asheville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2024, in Fort Myers, Florida. He was the son of PJ and Alene Herron. Roger is survived by his wife, Sharon L. Herron, his daughters Judy Houck (Dan) and Kate Herron, his brother Ronald Herron and stepdaughters Christy Szympruch (Scott) and Carrie Hunt. They have five grandchildren, Julie Houck, Tori Mentz, PJ Mentz, Emma Szympruch, and David Szympruch. Roger retired in 1995 from a long career in the Ballistic Research Lab at Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he was a safety specialist. He was a Charlestown Town Commissioner for many years, at various times serving as President and Police Commissioner. He also filled in as the Charlestown Police Officer when needed. He was involved the creation and planning of the Charlestown Colonial Fair. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking, was an avid deer hunter, and spent many years fishing at the Delaware beaches and at J.N. “Ding” Darling National Wildlife Refuge in Sanibel, Florida. He was also a licensed electrician and licensed firearms dealer.
