92 years old

William Samuel Johns, born on October 19, 1931, in Uniontown, PA passed peacefully on March 30, 2024, in Fort Myers, Florida. He was the son of Hiram and Nellie Johns and was preceded in death by his sister, Alice Margaret Johns, of Morgantown, West Virginia.

William, lovingly known as Bill, is survived by his devoted wife, Lela Hutson Johns, and their four children Patti Moll (Steve), Jeri Janok Cundiff (Don), Kelly Childers (Russ) and Brad Johns (Debbie). They have twelve cherished grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sister, Virginia (Ginny) Kelley, of Zuni, Virginia.

Bill met his wife, Lela, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, married and shared 67 years together. Bill graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in liberal arts, and later from the University of Louisville with his Masters Degree and additional certifications. Bill was a multi-talented musician, having played in many professional organizations including the Pittsburgh Symphony. After serving in the military, Bill remained an active civil service employee at Fort Knox High School, where he spent his entire career as an educator, retiring as the principal of the high school in 1986.

Beyond his professional achievements, Bill enjoyed golfing, cheering on the University of Louisville sports teams, organizing and leading summer concert series in various parks in the Louisville, KY and Fort Myers/Sanibel area, and much more.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of determination, discipline and love of family. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
