Alice Evelyn Briggs, 98, passed away on October 21, 2017 in Fort Myers. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut on November 30, 1918 to Emil and Otilia Johnson.
She graduated in class 1936B from Hartford Public High School then took a course in stenography from Morse College. She worked for Heublein and Aetna for many years. On August 1, 1941 she married Austin Briggs. They were apart for three and a half years during the war. The family moved to Fort Myers in 1956 and was among the first to build in McGregor Groves. Alice worked in the family business, Briggs Typewriter, and spent many happy years working in the nursery on Sundays in the McGregor Baptist Church. One of the founding members of St. Hilary’s Episcopal Church, Alice was the Church Secretary at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church from 1963 to 1993.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Austin, in 1978. She is survived by her son, David, his wife Amey and their daughter, Vanessa; son Randy and his wife, Chris; and daughter Grace and her fiancé Mark Beaumont, all of Fort Myers.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday October 26, 2017 at 1:00 PM in St Hilary’s Episcopal Church, 5011 McGregor Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33901.
