Austin Henry Baggett, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 6th, 2020 after a short illness. Born June 19th, 1931 in Plant City, Florida, Austin was a member of Fort Myers High School’s graduating class of 1951, an electrician in the U.S. Navy (Korean War), graduated with a Masters in History and a BA in Phys Ed from Hinds College and Mississippi College. While at Hinds Austin met Patricia Jones, of Carson, Mississippi. The couple married in 1957. In 1960 they moved back to Fort Myers where “Coach” Baggett would embark on a 31-year career in physical education (Fort Myers Middle & Dunbar Middle). He coached football, track & field (Fort Myers Senior High) and swimming. Never idle, he tirelessly invested himself in his many hobbies and interests such as woodworking, carpentry, construction, sculpture plus many others. He enjoyed golfing, travel, biking and being on the water. It was common to see him riding his bicycle along McGregor Boulevard. Austin had a beautiful baritone singing voice, a keen wit and a quiet, gentle manner. In their 63 years as husband and wife, Austin and Patricia had 4 children, Joan, Nancy, Brandon and Kelli. He is survived by his wife Patricia, his daughters Joan Clark and Kelli Wildman, grandsons Brandon Clark (Ana), Gregory Clark, Kade Wildman (Cherish) and Devin Wilder and great-granddaughter Halo Wildman.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2020 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM in the Harvey Engelhardt Funeral Chapel at 1600 Colonial Blvd. in Fort Myers.
