Barbara M. Welton, age 86 of FT Myers Beach, FL passed away on Saturday July 28, 2018 from cancer.

Barbara was born on July 24, 1932 in Rochester, NY to her parents Bruce R. Mann and Gladys S. Mann. She grew up in a suburb of Rochester in the town of Irondequoit. She graduated from East High School in Rochester, Buffalo State University with BS in Education and Albany University with an MA in Education. She married Roger S. Welton on July 23, 1954 in Irondequoit, NY. She had 2 children: Donna Ann Welton of Helsinki, Finland and David P. Welton of Miami, Florida and 3 grandchildren: Hannah Buoye of Oakland CA. Ian Buoye of Tacoma, WA. And Esther Miller of New York, NY.

Barbara was a Home Economics Teacher, first at the Rochester School for the Deaf and later for the School Sytem of Troy, NY where she headed up a federally funded program called the WorkBasket in The Martin Luther King housing development, which helped adults use their limited incomes more successfully. She retired in 1987 and moved to FT Myers Beach, FL. With her husband. There, she and her husband became active with the Ft Myers Beach Kiwanis, volunteering for the last 22 years at the Beach Kiwanis Thrift Shop. She and her husband joined the Chapel By The Sea Presbyterian Church on Ft Myers Beach in 1988. She served as an Elder at the church and was on several different committees over the years.

Barbara was a servant at heart, always looking to help others. She continued to enjoy teaching in her retirement as she taught crafts at her condo clubhouse for 10 years and the after school kids at Chapel By The Sea for 10 years as well. She was a very talented cook and is locally famous for her chocolate chip cookies!!

There will be a Memorial Service for Barbara on the morning of August 10th at 10:00 AM at the Chapel By The Sea on Ft Myers Beach, FL. Interment will be later at the White Haven Memorial Cemetery in Pittsford, NY, a suburb of Rochester, NY. Arrangements are being handled by The Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home and Chapel By The Sea. Donations may be made in Barbara’s name to the Chapel By The Sea, P.O. Box 2997, Ft Myers, Beach, FL, 33932
