Betty Wilson Close

Betty Wilson Close passed away May 13 2022 in Fort Myers Florida. She was born on May 2, 1930 in Lockport New York to William and Nellie Horton of Lockport, NY.  She graduated from Lockport Senior High School in 1948 and married John Perry Wilson of Niagara Falls, NY.  They resided in Pompano Florida, where she raised her  4 children. She was President of the Pompano Women’s Lyons Club and was an excellent seamstress.  She was divorced after 23 years of marriage.  While working for the Munter’s Corporation in Fort Myers, FL, she met her husband of 24 years, E. Burt Close.  They were residents at the Landings and enjoyed playing tennis in the Fort Myers Tennis League.  She served on the altar guild at St. Hillary’ Episcopal Church for 12 years.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents William and Nellie Horton and her sister, Elaine Horton Keyes.

Betty is survived by her four children, Brynna, Nancy, Karen and Douglas, 2 stepchildren, Gary and Brian, 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ms. Close passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family.

A memorial service to honor Betty Close will be held on June 19th in Fort Myers at Iona Hope Episcopal Church at 9650 Gladiolus Drive at 10:45am, immediately following the church service.
