Welcome to the memorial page for

Catherine Patricia Madden

March 26, 1937 ~ December 3, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old
Fort Myers – Catherine Patricia Madden, daughter of John and Catherine Honan of Counties Kerry and Clare, Ireland, was born March, 26th, 1937 in New York City, NY.   She passed away on Sunday, December 3rd. 2017, at her daughter’s home in Miami, Florida, after several months bravely facing a Stage Four Cancer diagnosis.

As a child, Catherine attended Saint Rose of Lima Catholic School in Manhattan.  Following secretarial school and time as a novice Catholic Nun, she married Joseph M. Madden in 1960.

When Catherine married Joseph, a civil engineer, she signed up for an adventure she could never have foreseen.  During her life’s journey, Catherine and Joe lived in numerous cities in the United States and Europe, traveled to the Far East and Australia; all while raising six happy, close-knit and successful children, along the way.

Throughout her adventure, Catherine held several positions in retail, education and healthcare; then finally settled in the Whiskey Creek community of Fort Myers where she was soon joined by her brother Patrick Honan after her husband passed away.

For her whole life Catherine remained devoted to and active in her Catholic Faith; most recently in Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Community, where she served as both Eucharistic Minister and companion to the home-bound and those in nursing homes.  Catherine loved and served her Savior and her family every day of her life.   She always enjoyed singing, keeping up with current affairs, walking, gardening and cooking; but mostly looked forward to time with her family, loads of laughter and long calls with dear friends.

Catherine is survived by her six loving children:  Robert Madden of Milwaukee, WI, John Madden of Houston, TX, Jeanne Madden of San Francisco, CA, Patrick Madden of Mayville, WI, Joseph Madden, Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL, Catherine Shkolnik of Miami, FL and nine loving grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, her brother, Patrick Honan, and her parents.

Catherine’s visitation will be held at Saint Cecilia’s Catholic Community, 5632 Sunrise Drive, Fort Myers, FL the morning of Friday, December 15th, 2017, at 9am.  A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10am and the family will host a reception immediately following the service in the church activities hall.

Fort Myers – Patrick Joseph Honan, son of John and Catherine Honan of Counties Kerry and Clare, Ireland, was born October 4th, 1934 and raised in New York City, NY.   He passed away on Friday, November 10th, 2017, in Miami, Florida, after several years of enduring Alzheimer’s disease.

Patrick attended Cardinal Hayes Catholic High School in the Bronx and went on to have varied careers in the Merchant Marines, on Wall Street and later managing a small leather manufacturer in the Boston area before he retired and moved to live with his sister Catherine in the Whiskey Creek Community of Fort Myers.

He was a voracious reader and dedicated politics aficionado, with a wonderfully dry sense of humor.  Patrick was a very kind hearted soul and always volunteered to help someone in need; he was an avid walker and enjoyed nature, photography and was a frequent patron of the fine arts.

Patrick is survived by her six loving nieces and nephews:  Robert Madden of Milwaukee, WI, John Madden of Houston, TX, Jeanne Madden of San Francisco, CA, Patrick Madden of Mayville, WI, Joseph Madden, Jr. of Ft. Myers, FL, Catherine Shkolnik of Miami, FL and nine loving grandchildren.  He was survived by his sister, Catherine Madden, recently deceased, and preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Saint Cecilia's Catholic Community 5632 Sunrise Drive, Fort Myers, FL the morning of Friday, December 15th, 2017 at 10am and the family will host a reception immediately following the service in the church activities hall.
