Cynthia J Hayes
April 7, 1949 ~ January 16, 2022 (age 72) 72 Years Old
Cynthia “Cindy” Jane Hayes was the most incredibly loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world January 16, 2022 after Alzheimer’s took her way too soon at 72. She was surrounded by her close family who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She was born to Dewey and Evelyn Kuiken on April 7th, 1949 in Harlan, Iowa. Cindy graduated from University of Iowa in 1971 and followed her dreams of teaching shortly after. She spent many years teaching kindergarten and fifth grade and was a true natural at making children feel special.
She met her husband Tom in the seventh grade and they spent many wonderful years together before their wedding on June 17th, 1972. Together they had three children: Andy, Lindsay, and Sarah. Cindy was the light in every room. Her smile and laugh were contagious to all those in her presence. She never met a stranger and was always the last to leave a celebration when it came time. In all her roles, she completely invested herself and her time.
Being married to a College and NFL football coach meant a lot of moves, new houses, and new friends. Every year she sent a lengthy Christmas card and the theme was always about how much she treasured her friendships along the way. She truly loved all of those who crossed her path.
She was very athletic and spent a lot of her time throughout the years either swimming, golfing, playing tennis, or bowling. She was also an avid crafter and she spent many days creating custom designs for schools or sports teams. Last but not least, she loved baking and we all loved her treats. Retirement for her husband Tom arrived eventually and she moved to Florida to be with her daughters and grandchildren.
Cindy is survived by her husband Tom Hayes, and their children Andrew Hayes (Courtney Hayes), Lindsay Cieloha (Jason Cieloha), and Sarah Hayes; and her six grandchildren Jack Hayes, Owen Hayes, Hayes Cieloha, Stella Cieloha, Austin Cieloha, and Bradley Cieloha.
A memorial service will be held at a future date. Tributes can be made in Cindy’s honor on the Alzheimer’s Association website. We thank you for all of your love and support.
