Donald Louis Glaser
January 17, 1933 ~ January 24, 2023 (age 90) 90 Years Old
Donald Louis Glaser passed away on January 24, 2023, a week after celebrating his 90th birthday. Born and raised in Zanesville, OH, Don graduated from The Ohio State University as a member of the mechanical engineering honor society, Phi Tau Sigma, and continued as a lifelong Buckeye fan. Following graduation, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Navy and served as First Lieutenant on the USS Summit County. In 1958, Don moved to Akron, OH, shortly after his marriage to Clare Gemrich. Don made Akron his home, there founded Air Enterprises, and ultimately developed his manufacturing facility on the grounds of Akron Municipal Airport out of which he flew his beloved Aerostar airplanes. As a mechanical engineer specializing in heating and air conditioning, Don holds multiple patents and received the 50-year Distinguished Member Award from ASHRAE. Throughout his life, Don was active in many organizations, serving as the President of the Aerostar Owners Association, President of the Board of both Fairlawn and Fiddlesticks Country Clubs, and Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Clare; his parents, Walter and Hilda (Feisner) Glaser; and his sister, Mary Lou Rower. Don is survived by his son D. Louis (Rachel) of Chicago; his daughters, Joan (Bill) Hewitt of Encinitas, CA, and Elaine (Jason) Morse of Westford, VT; his grandchildren, Lee Hewitt (Andrew) Lochner, Brent Hewitt, Ella and Marlowe Glaser, Rachel and Robbie Morse; and his great granddaughter, Clare Lochner. A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home (1600 Colonial Boulevard, Ft. Myers, FL 33907).
