Doris Stenberg Harvot Obituary

Doris Leola Stenberg Harvot, 99 of Fort Myers, FL and formerly of Warren, PA, died Monday, December 9th with family by her side. Doris was born October 30, 1920 to the late Myrtle Youngberg and Gustave Melcher (Mike) Stenberg, in Wetmore, PA. Doris graduated from the Ludlow High School where she had a passion for math and a love for learning.

Doris was married to the late Robert (Bob) Harvot and lived in Chardon, Ohio for many years prior to returning to her former home in the Warren area. She and her husband Bob were avid golfers and members of Blueberry Hill Golf Club where they lived and golfed until they moved permanently to Sanibel, Florida. Doris has been a member of First United Methodist Church of Warren, PA for over 75 years and was also a member of the Sanibel Community Church on Sanibel Island.

She is survived by her children, Rodney Betts, Warren, PA and Lorraine Frey (Bill), Fort Myers, FL and step-daughters, Kathryn (Joe) Phillips and Carolyn (Gary) Wood and her 11 grandchildren, Todd Betts (Kathy), Chad Betts (Tawni), Lorraine Bonavita (Matthew), Michelle Betts (Jerry), Nicole Samms (Ben), and step grandchildren, Gary Wood(Marleen) , Andy Wood, Chad Wood, Megan McCaslin (Jeff), Robert Harvot, and Kaitlyn Ruley (Ken). She was also blessed with 17 great grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Irvin R. Betts, daughter-in-law, Jane C. Betts, step-daughter, Janet Harvot, her siblings, Irvin Stenberg, Mae Mack and Fay Weirich, six nephews, and her former spouse, Edward L. Betts.

Doris was proud of her Swedish heritage and cherished those traditions. Her passions included flower gardening, pickle-making, and knitting afghans and Christmas stockings for her family. She was an avid reader, bridge player, and baseball fan throughout her entire life. She fiercely loved her family and friends and made it a priority to stay in touch with all of them.

A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 200 Market Street, Warren, PA on Saturday, January 11, 2020. Final details will be announced closer to that date. Final resting place will be in Kane, PA. at the Mt Tabor Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St Jude’s Hospital or the Salvation Army.
