Dorothy Ann Birch age 94 passed away December 22, 2021 peacefully at her home in Fort Myers. Dorothy was born July 9, 1927 in Binghamton New York, the daughter of Harold and Dorothy Morss. Dorothy graduated from Geneseo, the State University of New York with a four year bachelor’s degree (with a major in child psychology) in 1949. After graduation she moved to Fort Myers Florida to begin teaching second grade. After moving to Fort Myers Dorothy met Phil Birch and they married in 1952. They celebrated over 43 years of marriage until Phil passed away in 1995. During their years together Phil and Dorothy built and ran Birch Seafood Company. Dorothy along with actively raising a family helped run the business with her husband until 1995. Dorothy and Phil enjoyed sailing, fishing, golf and tennis. Dorothy loved music and was active supporting the Southwest Florida Symphony for many years. Dorothy was also an avid duplicate bridge player and loved to compete at the local bridge club. Dorothy is pre-deceased by her parents and husband, Phil Birch. Surviving are her two sons Robert Birch and his longtime girlfriend,  Lisa Smith and Thomas Birch and his wife Daniela all from Fort Myers Florida, three grandchildren, Brandon Birch (wife Ashley) , Alexander Birch and Samantha Birch, one sister, Nancy Westerberg of Sacramento California, two great grandchildren, Cooper Birch and Aubree Birch and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to recognize three of Dorothy’s caregivers, Laura Eddy, Carolyn Spitzer and Lisa Smith. The family considers all of them angels from above. The family will be holding a family only private service.
