Gene and I grew up living next door to each other. From early games of tag to baseball and basketball involving the whole neighborhood, Gene was the guy that got along with everyone. Every five years I was always hoping he would be come back for the class reunion and was disappointed when I didn't get to see him. I can see by the replies from his new friends that Gene still fit the same mold of being upbeat and a friend to all. Now I am sorry that I didn't pick up the phone at some point to at least say hello and talk about the good old days in the neighborhood.

Heartbroken to hear of Gene's passing. I worked with Gene for several years and he was such a delightful person. He always made you smile and made the day more fun! He had the most endearing personality.....always positive. Heaven has a new Angel. Prayers for Jeff and the Hocker family as they mourn the loss of this wonderful man. As Gene always said, Much Love.

Gene was a class act in many ways. He was one of Barry's best friends since they started teaching twenty something years ago together. He was one of the finest and most dedicated teachers that Barry knew. He was a blessing to his students, family and friends. We will miss his smile and gentle ways. Jeff and family please keep in touch and let us know if there is anything we can do. We also feel your loss. Much love!

I am truly saddened to hear about Gene's passing. I did not have the privilege to work with Gene, but had occasions where I would be on the same hallway with him. He was
always very professional and always smiling. Gene was dedicated to his students and to
helping others in the community. My thoughts and prayers are with Gene's family and friends.

Gene Hocker was a fantastic loving teacher who woke up everyday and did what he absolutely loved, teaching. He was the kindest, gentilest, most caring person we have ever known. He taught kids to love science and in turn they loved him. Outside the classroom Gene was a fun living person who loved life and family. He was admired by by teachers and any one who knew him and will truly be missed. The past several years have been devastating to the people who knew and loved Gene but his spirit and his unwavering desire to never give up was evident by his fight to live. Hopefully his spirit will live forever with people who knew him. May G-d watch over that wonderful nan.

Prayers and fond memories are what we have to remember our dearly departed.Unfortunately, I only knew Gene a little more than a year, and it was his last year....Amazing, how a person with such a sickness never got mad, never complained, was always sweet and caring. I will never forget his kindness. May God give him eternal rest and the family the strength to bear the great pain.

Gene Hocker was a person who everyday woke up and did what he absolutely loved and that was teaching. Gene taught science for some 28 years and loved every minute of his day. He taught kids to love science and he made it fun. Outside the classroom Gene was a caring fun living person who enjoyed life to its fullest. He was admired by teachers and by anyone who knew him and will truly be missed. The past several years have been devastating to the people who knew and loved Gene but his spirit, his unwavering desire to never give up, was evident by his desire to fight to live. I will always treasure the teacher, the fun, and the friendship we had and I hope his spirit will live with the kids he taught and the people that knew him. G-d bless Gene Hocker.

I want to express my sincere condolences to all of Gene's family and friends. Gene was such an incredible person--kind, compassionate, and sincere. He was such a dear friend to me. I co-taught with him for several years at Northwestern Middle School. Sharing a classroom with him was an honor. His students respected him and loved his teaching style. They knew he truly cared about them. He was light-hearted and made us laugh and smile everyday. He would never sweat the small stuff and taught us all so much more than the curriculum. Being around him was like a breath of fresh air. You always left feeling better than when you came in. The world was definitely a better place for having Gene Hocker in it! Words cannot express just how much he will be missed!

I was privileged to work with Gene at Northwestern Middle School. Freshly out of college, Gene was that pillar at our school that many of us looked up to and relied upon to set the culture necessary for a successful learning environment. You'll have to go to the ends of the earth to find someone that didn't know Gene to be a great teacher and friend. The one thing that I will always cherish about Gene and will always take with me was how he carried himself. He should have written a book on how to be a true gentleman. May God hold you in His hands forever Gene. Thank you for the many lives you touched while you were with us. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

Such a loss! Gene was such an amazing person - my husband took his job at HBMS when he moved to Northwestern and he not only gave him teaching materials but invited him to observe him teaching - helping him ease into the life of a middle school teacher. Going the extra mile!

I was able to get to know him after he retired and would sub at NMS. RIP Mr Hocker!

I worked with Gene for many years at Northwestern Middle School. He brought joy to all of us everyday. His wit, laughter and intellect was like no other. His prospective on everything was thoughtful, edgy, and honest. He was brave and a class act. I have no doubt he is resting now and watching over us all and having a good laugh. The world lost a great individual and I just feel privileged to have had him in my life. My thoughts and prayers are with his family & friends.

Precious Gene. The Bible says to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Such a sweet, kind and funny friend you have been to me, even long distance. Such a blessing! I pray for peace and comfort for Jeff and the rest of Gene's family. ❤
