Welcome to the memorial page for

Eugene Earl Hocker

August 8, 1950 ~ April 6, 2017 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Eugene Earl Hocker, 66, a long-time resident of Alpharetta Georgia, passed away peacefully early on the morning of April 6, 2017 at the Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers Florida. Gene went to be with our Lord after a long battle with ALS, which he faced with all courage and dignity. His devoted family was with him.
Gene was born at the St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood Indiana on August 8, 1950, to Dana and Shirley Ann (Ellis) Hocker.
Gene is preceded in death by his Mother. He is survived by his spouse and partner of 38 years, Jeffrey Flynn, to whom he was married on July 2, 2015, and whose heart now bleeds. He is further survived by his father Dana Earl and wife Marlis of Bradenton Florida, his brother and wife Thomas Robert and Mary Ann Hocker of Hanover Pennsylvania, his sister Janet Sue and husband Kevin Forrester of Bradenton Florida, his sister Shari Ann Halliburton and fiancé Robert Jenkins of Dalton Georgia, many cherished nieces and nephews, and by his devoted nurse and friend Tatyana.
Gene graduated from Wendell L. Willkie High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army from May 1972 to May 1974 as a Nuclear Weapons Maintenance Specialist at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Ball State University and a Master’s Degree from Georgia State University. He taught Earth Science for nearly thirty years with the Fulton County Public Schools. He taught at Paul D. West middle school in Atlanta, and Haynes Bridge and Northwestern middle schools in Alpharetta Georgia. Gene was known for his dedication to his students and affection for his colleagues. Gene retired from teaching in 2010.
We are blessed to learn the many valuable lessons from the exemplary life of Eugene Earl Hocker. A princely man with a kingly heart, he was a devoted friend, kind and generous and known for his sense of humor. He loved cooking and family gatherings. His gardening was a gift from God and his landscaping surpassed the most beautiful of homes. He enjoyed the beach, nature and fishing, watching and caring for the birds, and the simple pleasures in life.
In obedience to the command of our Lord Jesus Christ and in imitation of His example, Gene was buried with Him in baptism April 10, 1960.
Cremation is being arranged by the Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home, Colonial Boulevard, Fort Myers Florida. Condolences for Gene may be left on his tribute page at the funeral home website.
