Hazel C New

Hazel C. New, 91, died peacefully on June 6, 2018, in Fort Myers, FL, after a long life filled with love and family.  She was born on Feb. 13, 1927, in Burnside, KY, to William and Mattie Sullivan.  On April 3, 1946, she married William Cecil New of Flossie, KY.

Hazel was devoted to her family.  Being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother was always the most important thing in her life.  In the words of her grandson, “For me, she was a blueprint of what it looks like to be a decent human being who puts the needs of others above themselves, and who always provided overwhelming unconditional love and unquestioning support”.

She was predeceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William Cecil, and is survived by her sons Kenneth New and Wayne New, granddaughter Joy Haslemann, grandson Kurt New, and great-grandchildren Joshua and Katherine Haslemann.  A memorial serice will be held at Harvey-Englehardt Funeral Services in Fort Myers on June 16, 2018, following which she will be interred with her husband at Mill Springs National Cemetery in Nancy, KY.  Memorials preferred to Sunrise Childrens Services of Somerset, KY (sunrise.org).
