Tribute

Janet D. Colasurd (Jane) of Ft. Myers, FL passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 4,
2022 at the age of 97.
Jane was born December 28, 1924 in Sayre, PA to Frank an Janette Daub. As a young child,
she enjoyed canoeing near the family cottage along the Susquehanna River and spending time
with older brothers, Billy and Charles. In her young teens she was confined to bed with
rheumatic fever, and took this time to hone her skills in sketching, which would later evolve into
an amazing talent for watercolor painting. This talent would become a passion later in life. She
was prolific, and her works could be found in art shows. Several works grace the walls of the
homes she shared with her husband, Richard, as well as those of friends and family.
Jane had an appreciation for, and ability to create beauty. She drank in her surroundings and
would tell tales of her travels throughout the world. She had an eye for fashion and a
remarkable vision used to create exquisite and comfortable homes, from Elmira to Toledo to Ft.
Myers. Jane loved to entertain and was a fantastic cook. She was always ready to share a
recipe and offer commentary on a meal. Jane once stated that both she and here husband
loved music; it “kept them going, and helped the body and soul”. She loved dancing from the
time she was a young girl and enjoyed trying out her latest dance steps around the house until
her final days.
Her gardens over the years were important to her. She loved creating living works of art that
were both interesting and breathtaking. She had a particular way with orchids.Jane also had a
deep appreciation for poetry, and would collect works that spoke to her, and would share them
freely with those around her. She could recite from memory quite a large catalog of poetry. At
the age of 95, she proudly wrote a book. A picture-biography as she called it. A collection of
the images, people, places, poems, paintings and stories she felt important to capture who she
was as a person. It is treasured by all who read it and to whom she gave copies.
Jane was an extroverted, unreserved and supportive woman. She worked diligently to ensure
that those around her were taken care of. Because of these traits, she not only excelled in her
position in sales and marketing at the Corning Hilton, but also found success in working as a
bus tour guide with her daughter, Ruth in the Finger Lakes Region of New York. She was
always ready for an adventure and eagerly exposed her family to novel experiences. From
travel to ballet and theater, museums, sports, cuisine; she wanted those she loved to drink as
deeply from life as she did. She was generous with her knowledge and lessons she thought
important for a full and loving life.
Jane is preceded in death by her brothers, Billy and Charles Daub; first husband, Jim Cooley;
and dear relatives, Harry Yakel and “Aunt Hulda”. She is survived by the love of her life,
husband, Richard Colasurd; daughter, Ruth Taggart; grandchildren, Kelly Taggart, Gregory
Dudick and Jamilyn Fussell; great-grandsons, Coult and Pierce Fussell; countless dear friends,
and her beloved dog, Rudy.
