Janiece Oleta Whidden McIntosh, went to be with her Lord at the age of 90 while surrounded by loved ones on Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Hope Hospice House in Fort Myers, Florida.

Janiece was born on October 9, 1928 at Lee Memorial Hospital to John and Flossie Whidden. She was the great-granddaughter of John and Penelope Powell, the third settlers in Fort Myers, and great-great granddaughter of James W. And Mary Whidden, who were among the first settlers of the Peace River Valley of Florida. Janiece was a graduate from Fort Myers High School and member of the 1946 Glee Club.  She raised her two children, Dennis and Judith, in Fort Myers at their home on Calvin Boulevard. Janiece had a passion for music and was well known as a talented musician. She also had a passion for her Christian faith and community. Janiece served as the Choir Director at Central Baptist Church for many years and taught her Sunday School Class “Forever Young” at Riverside Baptist Church and then Crossroads Baptist Church for over 30 years.

Janiece was preceded in death by her father John Wesley Whidden (1900-1980), mother Flossie Octavia Brannan Whidden (1908-1979), and brother Edward Wesley Whidden (1930-2014).

She is survived by her son Dennis Edward McIntosh and daughter Judith Kay Persons (Armor); grandchildren JoAnne McIntosh, Jason Douglas McIntosh (Kristin), Brian Patrick McIntosh, Jenna Dianne Persons, Justin Brannan McIntosh, Jonathan Cade McIntosh and Mathison Armor Persons (Monica); great-grandchildren Bailey, Tyla, Cayson, Kaylee and Reden; her brother John Paul Whidden (Joyce) and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 o’clock a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Crossroads Baptist Church, 10721 Palm Beach Boulevard.


Memorial donations in Janiece’s name may be made to her home of worship, Crossroads Baptist Church.
