Johnny Willie Wilson, age 82, resident of Bonita Springs, FL, formerly of Vienna, VA, passed away on
June 14, 2021.
Johnny was born in Lowell, WV to Estel and Kathleen “Mimi” Wilson. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy. After his service to his country, Johnny settled down in Northern Virginia, started a family and worked for the U.S. Government until retirement in 1998. In 2020 Johnny relocated to Bonita Springs to escape the cold winters with his beloved Labrador retriever Nellie, who was his constant companion. One of Johnny’s passions was swing dancing, and he could often be found on a weekend dancing the night away. Johnny enjoyed travelling and was a consummate do-it-yourselfer with his many extensive home projects. A true southern gentleman, Johnny easily made friends everywhere he went and was a great neighbor, always willing to lend a hand or a tool.
Johnny is survived by his daughter Judy and son-in-law Charlie Dutton, grandchildren Danny, Maddy, and Carly, former wife Martha Whitney, cousins Ron and Patty Farley, sister-in-law Jan Wilson, nephew and niece Scott Wilson and Kim Sheets, and his beloved Nellie. He is predeceased by his parents and brothers Jack and Bill Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in his name to the American Heart Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A family service and internment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held a future date.
