Tribute

Kathleen (Kass) Ann McCaslin passed away on April 24, 2021 in Estero, Florida at age 73. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.
Kass was born in Alpena, Michigan, on March 20, 1948, the daughter of the late Patrick and Eileen (McDonald) McPhillips.  She married James McCaslin, her husband of 53 years, on April 27, 1968, in Saginaw, Michigan.
Kass graduated from Saints Peter and Paul High School in 1966 and Eastern Michigan University in 1986.  She was a voracious reader, specializing in history and mysteries.  Kass loved to spend time with family, cruise around on her favorite pontoon at the lake “up north,” conquer all sorts of puzzles, discover and explore Amish country in Pennsylvania, browse art fairs and farmer’s markets, play word games, and even travel to all fifty states and beyond. She was a reluctant motorcycle enthusiast who gritted her teeth but rode across the United States more than once!  First and foremost she was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.  The love she had for her granddaughter and grandson knew no end.
Kass is survived by her husband, James; son, Jason (Christine) and grandchildren Alexandra and Kellan, of Eugene, Oregon; sisters Dianne (Richard) Lichon of Saginaw, Michigan, Mary Ann Schark of Saginaw, Michigan, Barbara (David) Strickland of Bixby, Oklahoma, and brother Colonel Dr. John (Lisa) McPhillips of Colleyville, Texas; brothers-in-law John McCaslin of Ludington, Michigan, Joseph McCaslin of Lake, Michigan and sister-in-law Mary (Tom) McCaslin - Good of Tucson, Arizona; nieces and nephews Linda Lichon, Dick (Michalene) Lichon, David (Mary) Schark, Carrie (Tim) Wilson, Kristen (Jeff) Platte, Rachael Strickland, Alyssa Strickland, Dustin (Brittany) McPhillips, Holden (Amanda) Hylander, and John Patrick “J.P.” (Roxanne) McPhillips, Jr., James (Sierra) McCaslin, Joseph McCaslin and Jocelyn McCaslin; plus great-nieces and nephews Emily, John, Ann, Lauryn, David, Mason, Camden, Sofia, Hayes, Evan, Olivia, Ella, Kaius, Beau, Benjamin, Collin, Stormie and Jude; and many dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Kass was predeceased by her brother-in-law David A. Schark, and her father and mother-in-law, James and Shirley McCaslin.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.  Donations can be made to the American Tinnitus Association (www.ata.org)
