Larry Fox, long time resident of Estero and Fort Myers, Florida, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the age of 69. He slipped away comfortably at Joanne’s Hope Hospice House in Bonita Springs, Florida, in the loving embrace of his wife, Janet.
Larry was the son of Lillian and Kenneth Fox of Waynesville, Ohio. He grew up in the Miami, Florida area where he graduated from Miami Military Academy and Miami-Dade Community College. Larry then attended Florida State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education and a Master’s Degree in Health Sciences. He taught public school Physical Education in Miami before his long career at Edison Community College. There he taught a variety of Physical Education and Health subjects, coached the wrestling team, and served as an Adjunct Instructor and Supervisor for the Work Force Program. Larry retired as a faculty member and then returned as an Academic Advising Specialist. He served in many capacities on faculty and administrative committees to build the Physical Education Department and provide new athletic classes and team opportunities. He retired in 2012 after 43 years in the field of education. Larry is well remembered at ECC as a caring teacher, mentor, and advisor who always put his students first.
Larry is survived by his wife Janet Fox, daughter Jessica Fox, twin brother Lonny Fox (and wife Carol), his sister Frances Fox, half-brother James Crane (and wife Judy), niece Stacey Fox Ford, nephews Chris Fox and Jeff Fox and lifelong friends Vann Helms and Mark Horowitz.
Larry loved fishing, boating, traveling, and FSU sports. He was a wonderful husband, doting father, loving brother, and loyal friend. He will be missed every day, and will live on in our hearts and minds forever.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 11:30AM. The service will take place at Harvey Engelhardt Funeral Home 1600 Colonial Blvd. Fort Myers, FL, followed by a short reception. Please view Larry’s tribute page at www.harvey-engelhardt.com.
