Lawrence (Larry) B. Lose, 71, passed away February 8, 2018 after a brief illness in Ft. Myers, Florida. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut on August 15, 1946, the son of Russell and Agnes (Behling) Lose. He was a graduate of Windsor Locks High School in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, Class of ’65. A 35 year USAF veteran; USAF 1966 – 1970; Connecticut Air National Guard; E9,Chief Master Sergeant in Fire Protection at Westover Air Force Reserve Base, 439th CES Fire Chief, Chicopee, Massachusetts. Larry was past Commander of the American Legion Post 269 in Haslett, Michigan and a member of the American Legion Post 336 in Fort Myers, Florida.
Larry retired from Westover AFRB in 2001 and moved to Webberville, Michigan to marry Joanne (Best), the love of his life. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and country living by the Red Cedar River. In 2012 they purchased a winter home in Orange Harbor Mobile Home & RV Park in Ft Myers where Larry enjoyed boating, home improvements projects, cooking and sitting on the lanai with a glass of wine looking out over the backyard canal. Larry loved wintering in Florida and served proudly as the Galley Captain of the Orange Harbor Boat Club.
Survivors include his wife Joanne; sister, Dr. Cynthia Lose and brother-in-law, Bill Shott of Hobbs, New Mexico; step-daughter, Julie Meloni, son-in-law Marco and grandchildren, Emma, Gavin and Luca, all of Ann Arbor, Michigan.. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-son Jim Bowerman.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the pavilion in Orange Harbor Mobile Home & RV Park at 5749 Palm Beach Blvd., Ft. Myers, Florida. A celebration of life will be held in Michigan in the spring, with a military burial service to take place early summer at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in Larry’s name.
