Marilyn A Mayers passed away peacefully Thursday July 23, 2020 in Ft. Myers, Florida. She was born January 11, 1929 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Charles and Lona (Walker) Piepgrass.
She grew up in Silver Springs, Maryland. She attended Wheaton College, Wheaton, IL where she majored in Greek and graduated cum laude in 1950. Following graduation, she joined Wycliffe Bible Translators and taught for many years in their Summer Institute of Linguistics. In May 1952 she married Marvin K. Mayers of Baltimore, MD. They served together in Guatemala translating the New Testament into the Pocomchi dialect. After returning to the United States, she worked in the Business Office at Wheaton College as well as later serving as the Administrative Assistant to the VP of Operations of Motors, Inc. LaMirada, CA and Director of SIL in Dallas, TX. After retiring Marilyn and Marv continued their ministry to others at Shell Point, Fort Myers, FL until her death.
Marilyn enjoyed reading, crocheting, and editing manuscripts for individuals. Her favorite place was the beach.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Lona (Walker) Piepgrass. Her husband, Marvin. Her brother Charles Piepgrass, sister Patsy Sasscer and two grandchildren.
Marilyn is survived by her two loving daughters Donna Pipkin and Margaret (Peggy) New. Her sister Virginia Piepgrass Lopston. Four grandchildren and ten great grandchildren as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
