Martha Barclay Obituary
Martha Georgia Barclay Giel, age 100, passed away peacefully in her Fort Myers, Florida home on July 2nd, 2017. She was born to Martha Georgia Elliott and John Alfred Barclay on December 30th, 1916, in Paoli, Indiana. She attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana, and followed and supported the progress and growth of her alma mater. She received a Master’s degree of Science in Public Health, and retired as a Medical Records Administrator at a military medical hospital. She was a Captain in the military, and was a Commissioned Officer in Uniformed Service with the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corp. Martha was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Bohdan Giel, MD, and her niece Patricia Barclay.
Martha lived a long and full life. As a long-time Fort Myers resident, she enjoyed gardening, participating in her local Presbyterian Church activities and caring for her two pet cats, Tippy and Trouble. She is survived by a great niece, Phoebe Smith of Indiana.
As she aged, Martha built a loving, supportive care team that advocated for her in her desire to live comfortably in her remaining years at home.
A memorial service was held locally at Harvey-Engelhardt Funeral Home on July 10, 2017. She will be interred in Indiana on family property.
