Phyllis M. Stanz (nee Kalinowski), age 82, of North Fort Myers, Florida passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 10, 2020.
Phyllis was born on May 21, 1938 in Bloomfield, Ohio. She married John Stanz (deceased) at Holy Trinity Polish National Catholic Church in Cleveland, Ohio on April 30, 1960. They were married until 1978.
After a brief move to Cincinnati, Ohio, Phyllis made her way to Florida in 1987 to manage the Blue Dolphin on Sanibel Island and ultimately settled in North Fort Myers. It was then she met her beloved Ed Swailus when she asked him to dance the Polka. They danced, traveled and cruised together for over 20 years until his passing in 2012.
Phyllis recently celebrated her 27th year of employment at Shell Point Village. Never one to have only one job, she had also worked at Sprint, Telephone Support Systems and Corporate Quarters. She was also a founding member of the SW Florida Polka Boosters.
Phyllis devoted her time to volunteerism. Very close to her heart were the participants she volunteered with for many years at Special Populations in Cape Coral where she danced with them every Wednesday.
Most recently, Phyllis was a very proud volunteer with Dr. Piper Center for Social Services in the Foster Grandparent Program. She loved her first graders at Bayshore Elementary School.
Phyllis is survived by her loving family; daughter Cheryl DeCara, son-in-law Martin DeCara, son-in-law Darryl Verhey, sister Joyce Zeigler, brother-in-law Don Zeigler, nieces Karen, Sharon (Randy) and Denise, great nieces, great nephews and many treasured friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son David J. Stanz.
