Raymond J. Hendzel passed away peacefully on January 22, 2021 at the age of 78. Born July 9. 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. of parents Bernard and Mary Hendzel. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, step daughter Leslie, brother Francis, sister Bernice and niece Cindy.
After graduating Roman Catholic high school he joined the Army serving in the Military Police Unit. After two years he went on to become a plain clothes member of the sex crimes, rape and juvenile aid divisions of the Philadelphia Police Dept.
Retiring to Fort Myers, Florida in 1993, decided he still needed to be active. So he became the code enforcement officer on Sanibel Island for 14 more years, where he made many friends.
After retiring for the second time he enjoyed cooking, card games, movies social gatherings and his pet dogs. He became a member of a Fantasy Baseball Club and won the trophy the first year he played. This trophy has been named after him in his honor.
His most favorite pastime was texting back and forth with his buddy in Philadelphia while watching his beloved Philadelphia sports teams.
