Tribute

Richard T. Lewis (Dick, RT, or Lew to some), 83, of Lake Forest, Illinois, and Sanibel Island, Florida, passed away on April 3rd, 2021. He was born to Luther and Kate Lewis on September 26th, 1937, in Youngstown, Ohio. He attended Niles McKinley High School and earned an accounting degree from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. While there, he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Following graduation in 1960, he worked for Price Waterhouse as a CPA in New York City. During this time, he was drafted into the United States Army. After working several years for Matlack trucking in Philadelphia, Dick moved to Lake Forest, IL, where he was CEO of Superior Bulk Logistics Inc for 23 years and Chairman for another 12 years until 2019. 

He was loved dearly by his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marilyn.  He leaves behind son Tom, wife Robin, and granddaughters Catherine and Annabel of Madison, Wisconsin, and son Jeff, wife Anna, and grandchildren James, Sebastian, Arianna, and Theo of Rye, New York.

As a husband, dad, and grandfather, he showed unconditional love, support, and encouragement. He led by example and treated everyone with respect and dignity. Dick was an avid reader and history enthusiast. He loved completing his daily crossword puzzles, golf, the beach, socializing with friends, and enlightening his grandchildren. Dick and his wife have been coming to Sanibel Island, Florida, for over 50 years and current members of The Sanctuary Golf Club. He served as President of The Ministries and Facilities Trust for Saint Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church on Sanibel.  

Dick came from a humble beginning and was the first member of his family to attend college.  He was an excellent businessman and leader. One of his career highlights was his term as President of National Tank Truck Carriers from 1993-1994, overseeing the collective interest of the tank truck industry. In 1985, Dick started with a small tank truck company, Superior Bulk Logistics Inc. At his time of retirement in 2019 as Chairman, Superior Bulk Logistics Inc was one of the largest tank truck companies in the United States.
