Robert William Bluhm

January 29, 1953 ~ December 28, 2020 (age 67) 67 Years Old

Tribute

Robert William Bluhm (Bob) 67 of N. Ft Myers, Florida passed on Monday December 28, 2020. Bob was born in East Orange New Jersey and grew up on the Jersey shore. He was the only child of the late H. Frank and Ruth Bluhm. Bob graduated from Middletown High School in Middletown, New Jersey.

He attended and graduated from the University of Tampa where he met his future wife Linda. Bob earned his degree in history and all who knew him appreciated his ongoing desire to learn more about it.

Bob’s working career was focused in the insurance and legal fields. Following graduation he and Linda married and moved to New Jersey starting his professional career with the Travelers Insurance Company as a claims adjuster.

In 1978 the company transferred them to Jacksonville Florida. Shortly afterward Bob was promoted and transferred to their office in Fort Myers Florida. He later left Travelers to work for local law firms leveraging his expertise in insurance claims to benefit their clients.

Bob was active in the community as a soccer coach. For several years he coached as many as three teams and later joined the board of the North Fort Myers soccer club. Through that tenure he coached and mentored not only his own three children, but their friends and team mates alike. He could always be found on the soccer field by looking for the man who was smoking a cigar!

Bob was a giving and caring man; his first priority was always family. And his demeanor belied his physical stature. He was truly a gentle giant.

A man ahead of the curve, he would share the household chores with Linda and no chore was beyond him. He juggled the needs of career and family before it was fashionable for men to do so. With work, parenting and coaching to contend with he still encouraged Linda to go back to school to get her Master’s degree.

Bob was an avid reader and he could always find a book that piqued his curiosity. History remained his favorite topic and he enjoyed discussions with his friends who shared that interest. He passed his passion of history on to his children.

Bob greatly enjoyed the excursions with coworkers that included a yearly trip to Las Vegas and many deep-sea fishing trips. Bob joined the passion his sons developed for playing paintball. He especially enjoyed organizing a paintball team of his sons and friends for paintball tournaments at Camp Blanding. Bob also earned certification in Scuba and enjoyed numerous diving trips.

Bob is survived by his wife Linda Bluhm (Edgar), his children William and wife Amy Bluhm (Orlando) of Arcadia, Florida, Kevin and wife Stacey Bluhm (Bortnick) of Lutz, Florida, Kimberly Bluhm of Ft. Myers, grandchildren Baily, William, and Livia and brother-in-law Rob Edgar and wife Jane (Hambrecht) of Cincinnati, Ohio.
