Dr. William “Bill” Harvey Johnson, DDS, 82, of Ft. Myers, FL passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 with family by his side.
Bill was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on September 21, 1939. He is preceded in death by his parents, James Houston Johnson, and Betty LeBoy Howison. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Johnson, his brother, Lieutenant General, US Army (Retired) James Johnson (Edna), his children, Jennifer (Johnson) Moore (Bart), William “Billy” H. Johnson, Jr. (Melanie), Andrew G. Johnson (Lisa Renée), William Brent Vest (Teresa), Brett H. Vest, and Misty L. (Vest) Chabot (Erik), 15 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Bill graduated from Wakefield High School of Arlington, Virginia in 1957. He then received an athletic scholarship to the University of Maryland, where he achieved “All American” status as a high hurdler on the Maryland track and field team. He graduated from the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Virginia (Virginia Commonwealth University) in 1966. He served two years in the United States Navy before setting up a dental practice in Ft. Myers in 1968, where he practiced until he retired in 2018.
Bill was an avid golfer and a member of Fiddlesticks Country Club since 1984. He enjoyed playing cards, collecting, and spending time with his family, friends, and his dogs.
Bill was a soft-spoken man with an easy-going demeanor who made an enormous impact on everyone’s life who knew him. To know him was to love him.
The family would like to thank the ER and ICU teams at Gulf Coast Hospital for their compassionate care during Bill’s stay. They would also like to thank all family and friends for their support and prayers.
A private Celebration of his life will be held September 25, 2022 for family and close friends at Fiddlestick’s Country Club.
The family has requested that remembrances be in the form of contributions to
Gulf Coast Humane Society at www.gulfcoasthumanesociety.org in memory of William Harvey Johnson.
